2018 is here!

Now that you have finished recovering from the holidays, it is time to kick your business into high gear.  Time to start fresh &  launch all your BIG PLANS for the year!  There is no better time than the present to evaluate your image and presence in the business world. YES … It is time to throw out that old vacation photograph you have been using on LinkedIn, or that head shot you “just had done” 10 years ago and are still using.  I introduce to you, the “4 Reasons You Absolutely Need a Professional Headshot Done“. After all it’s a new year, how about a new you!

REASON #1 – It conveys your professionalism. 

If you look professional, potential clients, that don’t know you personally, are going to be more likely to agree to that first meeting.

If you don’t take your professional image seriously, why would a potential client take your business seriously?

REASON #2 – Your best clients want to deal with people. 

Your brand or reputation may be what triggers a client to give your company a call, but it is the you, and the people in your business, who help establish that important long-term business relationship with your client. Having your professional portrait on your website, along with your story, puts a human side to the business.

A good head shot also gives people an idea of your personality before they meet you. A smile portrays approachability.  A serious look portrays determination. Make your expression match your personality.

INSIDER TIP:  A professional photographer that specializes in headshots knows how to pose you and how to use backdrop and lighting to get the best shot possible.  They can also advise you on the best type of clothing and colors to wear. I believe you should choose 2 different looks for your photo session.  Think Formal & Casual, Colorful & Subdued, or Logo & Non-Logo.  Choose colors that are flattering to your skin tone and hair color. In general, solid colors are better than patterns. For men, a brightly colored (but not too bold) tie paired with a classic white shirt and dark-toned suit is a nice choice.

REASON #3 – It reminds business contacts who you are, especially if  you only met in passing at a business function.

Having a current professional image makes it more likely they will accept your “friend” or “follow” request.  If you are using a dated image or something from a vacation or selfie, it can be portrayed as unprofessional. In this day and age, not having a headshot to help build that connection with clients and industry professionals is pretty much like not having a business card at a networking event. Faces help people remember, and your headshot is how you can get yourself out there. Not only that, but it supports and enhances your skills and experience on your social media profiles such as LinkedIn which makes you stand out above your competition.
