“Woohooo this is the best thing I have ever done!” – This is what my 10 year old daughter screamed as she ran to me after zip lining.
Yesterday we returned from our annual family vacation with my two brothers and their families. Each year we choose a different location and find adventures at every turn.
I look forward to this week all year long. Over the past 6 years we have traveled to destinations such as Washington DC, Seattle, Colorado (several times) and North Carolina. When this tradition started, Eryn was the only kid. Now that our summer vacations include 6 kids under the age of 10 there is never a dull moment. Not even at 5:30 am (thanks James).
One activity that hasn’t changed is picture time!! Of course having a professional photographer in the family does have its advantages as I am sure to capture every outing, meal and crazy activity (even a few images of the adults playing Cards Against Humanity). While we always make time for silly and action/posed photographs, we haven’t always made time for an actual “portrait session”. This year all the kids were old enough and on the same nap schedule (MIRACLE) to gather them in one spot for picture time!
This year we found a beautiful spot on top of a hill behind Grandfather Mountain to create their portraits. We all live in different parts of the country, but we all love the mountains. It seems only fitting that we have portraits of our children in a place that we love so much.
Here are a few portraits that I captured in the fields …
The next time you and your family go on vacation consider finding a professional photographer in the area to create a series of portraits of your children and family. This isn’t just for cruises!! I am connected with many amazing photographers across the country, shoot me an email the next time you hit the road or take to the air. I would be happy to help you find a portrait photographer at your destination. Or if you want to take me along for a day or two of your vacation I wouldn’t argue with you ;).
Stay tuned for part 2 of my family vacation photography blog posting. Later this week I will post some of my silly iPhone photos along with some tips on what you should photograph with your family while on vacation!
