This week the kids are in full swing online schooling mode. I know there isn’t a lot of time for extra activities, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be photographing our time in Quarantine!
“Silly Faces” is one project I have come up with to help make sure you capture your children and their many expressions being felt during Covid-19.
For your toddlers, they are probably living their best life, your school age kids may be a tad frustrated with online school, your teens are missing their friends and while those are generalizations, you know that each of your children are handling this time at home very differently.
A Silly Faces collage is the perfect way to capture their many expressions. When I am photographing children in the studio I typically will end our time together by having kids go crazy and do whatever they want. This is the same concept!
As an added bonus there is one thing more contagious then a virus … a SMILE!! When you create these silly face collages and share them on social media you will make people smile! We all need a little bit of that right now.
How To Make A Silly Faces Collage
Step 1: Find Your Location
Look for a solid wall in your home with good lighting. I recommend using natural light from a large window or sliding glass door and placing your subject 90 degrees to the light. This way the light will pass over their face and give you a soft natural look. You can also head outside your home if you have a patio with a covered roof and achieve the same look.
Step 2: Let Your Child Choose Their Clothing
This isn’t a formal portrait session. The idea is to capture who they are right now during this time at home. Let them choose their shirt!
Step 3: Get Your Silly On
Tell your kids what you are planning – a 9-up grid of their expressions. Direct them with making silly faces, smiles, serious faces, etc. Whatever you guys want to do. There are no rules. Only fun.
Step 4: Make Your Collage
Choose your favorite 9 images and bring them into a collage software. Adobe Spark will automatically create the perfect grid for you as will Pic Collage.
Step 5: Share Your Collage and Print It!
Share your Silly Faces Collage in the Facebook Group and on your social media. Be sure to tag us #sillyfacesofcloud9 and @cloud9studios We would love to share in all your silliness! Also be sure to print these collages! You will be happy you did.
