With Hurricane Milton projected to hit our area next Wednesday, we know many of you are already feeling the weight of the storm—especially following the devastation from Hurricane Helene. We’re all in this together, and our priority is the safety of you and your loved ones.

If evacuation becomes necessary, please prioritize your safety and don’t hesitate to leave if needed. There are some things we can’t replace, but we CAN take steps to protect cherished memories like family photos and keepsakes that mean so much to us.

Here are some quick tips to help you safeguard your family’s memories:

1️⃣ Backup Digital Photos: Make sure all your digital photos are backed up to the cloud or an external hard drive. This ensures they’re safe and accessible no matter where you are.

2️⃣ Protect Physical Photos: Place irreplaceable prints in waterproof, sealable bags and store them in a high, safe location. Consider scanning valuable photos ahead of time so you have digital copies as well.

3️⃣ Albums & Frames: If possible, store photo albums and framed memories in plastic bins to add an extra layer of protection from water damage.

4️⃣ Video & Keepsakes: Don’t forget videos, tapes, and other sentimental items. These can also be backed up digitally and protected in waterproof containers.

5️⃣ Preserve Your Child’s Artwork: Children’s artwork is a precious, irreplaceable memory of their childhood. Store their masterpieces in plastic sleeves or waterproof bins, or even scan and photograph their art to create digital backups.

In all of these protection methods, should water become a factor, be sure to remove from plastic containers as soon as it is safe to prevent mold from forming.
