Is a 6-month baby portrait worth it if I’m already planning a first birthday experience? What changes between 6 months and one year?
I bought Eryn a purse.
She was six months old. She couldn’t sit up without help, couldn’t say a single word, and had approximately zero places to be, but I found this little matching set at the Gymboree in Wesley Chapel, and I could not leave without all of it. The swimsuit. The hat. The flower-shaped pink sunglasses. The tiny purse.
Why does a six-month-old need a purse? I genuinely do not know. But if you’re a Florida mom, you already understand. Because picking out that first little beach outfit, with all its ridiculous matching accessories, is one of those small joys that sneaks up on you and makes you realize: this is a moment. This tiny, ordinary, completely perfect moment.
And then one day you blink, and it’s gone.
Here’s What No One Tells You About the First Year
When moms call us after seeing our first birthday ads, many of them are already six months in. Their baby is sitting up, starting to find their voice, discovering that their feet are the most interesting things in the room.
And almost every one of them says the same thing: “We’ll wait until the first birthday. That’s the big one.”
You’re not wrong to think that. The first birthday is absolutely worth celebrating. We love it.
But here’s the part nobody says out loud: the baby you have at six months and the baby you have at twelve months are not the same baby. Not even close.
The baby you have at six months and the baby you have at twelve months are not the same baby. Not even close.

The Six Months That Change Everything
Between now and their first birthday, your baby will likely go from sitting with a little help, to crawling, to pulling themselves up, to possibly taking their first wobbling steps across your living room floor.
They’ll go from cooing to saying something that sounds remarkably like “mama.” They’ll go from studying your face with wide, wondering eyes to reaching for your phone, your coffee, and anything else they absolutely should not have.
Every mom who has come in for a six-month portrait experience and then returned for the first birthday says the same thing afterward: “I didn’t realize how much they would change.”
Not “a little.” Not “somewhat.” Completely. Utterly. Wonderfully.
And the baby at six months, the one with the chubby wrists and the gummy smile and the way they tuck their chin when they laugh, that baby exists for a very short window of time.

Amber’s Story
Amber came to us when her baby was just three months old. She hadn’t been able to do newborn portraits at the hospital, and she didn’t want to miss the window entirely. So she came in, we photographed her baby in that sweet, sleepy, chin-on-chest stage where they still curl up like they’re remembering being small.
She was going to wait until the first birthday for the next one.
But before she left, we pulled up a little comparison. We showed her what three months looks like. What six months looks like, sitting up, eyes wide open, personality starting to surface. And what twelve months looks like, on their feet, on the move, a full-on little person with opinions.
Amber booked all three.
When she came to pick up her Heirloom Storybook, the one we designed from all three experiences, she sat down and started flipping through the pages. I watched her face.
There was this moment, when she got to the early pages, where I could see the nostalgia already settling in. That baby, the three-month-old who slept on her chest, who she would never get back. And then she turned the page to the one-year photos, and something shifted. Excitement. Wonder. This sense of look at who you’re becoming.
That is what portraits do.
They don’t just preserve the past. They let you hold the past and the future at the same time. They let you grieve a little and hope a lot, all in the same breath.

What the Six-Month Portrait Experience Actually Looks Like
We keep this experience relaxed and unhurried. Most six-month portrait experiences are about 30 to 45 minutes, with two outfit changes.
We love doing Florida babies in their beach baby look on our little studio beach set, complete with a pink Adirondack chair and a blue one. (The chairs lean back just enough to help babies who are still getting the hang of sitting, so don’t worry if yours isn’t quite there yet.) If you’ve been waiting for a reason to buy the ridiculous matching swimsuit set with the hat and the tiny sunglasses, this is your reason. This is the moment it was made for.
The second look is typically white on white, clean and timeless, the kind of portrait that focuses entirely on your baby: their features, their expressions, the way they look at you. It can also be your baby in just a diaper too!
Before your experience, we’ll have a Discovery Call where we learn all about your baby. Their personality. What makes them laugh. What you love most about who they are right now. We build the entire experience around that. The ideas we share here are just some of the options.

“But I’m Already Planning the First Birthday”
Good. Keep planning it. The first birthday experience is its own celebration and we would love to be part of it.
The six-month experience isn’t instead of that. It’s in addition to it.
And here’s the thing about “in addition”: when Amber held that Heirloom Storybook and saw her baby’s story told across three chapters, each one distinct, each one irreplaceable, the value wasn’t just in any single portrait. It was in the arc. The story of a whole first year, told in three acts.
You can’t go back and add that first chapter later.

If You’re Already Thinking About It
You called us. You filled out the form. Some part of you already knows this moment is worth something.
You don’t need a reason to do this now. You already have one. It’s sitting in your lap, or napping in the next room, or staring at their feet like they’re the most fascinating things they’ve ever seen.
When you’re ready to learn more, we’d love to talk. A Discovery Call takes about fifteen minutes and there’s no pressure, just a conversation about your baby and what you’d love to remember about right now.
Let’s chat about your baby’s story. We’re here when you’re ready.

Cloud 9 Studios serves families in Wesley Chapel, Land O’ Lakes, Zephyrhills, and the greater Tampa Bay area.
FAQ Section
How is a 6-month baby portrait different from a first birthday experience? A six-month portrait experience focuses on who your baby is right now, a sitter who is discovering the world, before crawling, walking, and talking transform them entirely. The first birthday experience celebrates a different chapter. Together, they tell a complete story.
What does a 6-month baby portrait experience at Cloud 9 Studios include? Most six-month experiences are 30 to 45 minutes with two outfit changes. We love a Florida beach baby look on our studio beach set with Adirondack chairs, plus a classic white on white look. Before your experience, we’ll have a Discovery Call to learn all about your baby’s personality and what you want to remember about this stage.
My baby isn’t sitting up fully yet. Can we still do a portrait experience? Yes. Our pink and blue Adirondack chairs on the beach set lean back just enough to support babies who are still building their core strength. We have other props and chairs that also can help your baby sit. We work with where your baby is, not where the internet says they should be.
Is a six-month portrait worth it if I’m already planning a first birthday experience? Every mom who has done both tells us the same thing: she didn’t realize how much her baby would change. The six-month experience captures a version of your baby that will exist for a very short window of time. It’s not instead of the first birthday. It’s the first chapter of the story.
How do I get started with a six-month baby portrait experience in Wesley Chapel? The first step is scheduling a Discovery Call, about fifteen minutes, no pressure, just a conversation about your baby and what you’d love to hold onto from right now.
